The Cobra 4x4 Fox Awning is a freestanding 270 degree awning that wraps from the side of your vehicle around to the rear, giving you three sides of coverage without a second shelter or separate frame setup. At 15 square metres deployed, there's enough covered space for a full camp kitchen, chairs, and gear spread out around the vehicle, all from a single roof rack mount.

Most awnings on the market are side-only shade panels that leave the rear of your vehicle exposed. The Fox Awning sweeps 270 degrees, covering the driver or passenger side and wrapping around the back of the vehicle in one continuous structure. No joining separate panels, no second setup. It deploys in minutes and stands on its own once the arms are out.
Freestanding means the awning holds its shape once deployed without needing poles to stay upright. Six individual arms extend out and lock into position, keeping the canopy taut and flat with no sagging sections and no wavy fabric between supports. Each arm connects back to a stainless steel hinge, which is what keeps the whole structure rigid when wind picks up.
Six telescopic support poles are included in the package. In calm conditions the awning stands without them, but wind is a given when camping in Australia, so get the poles in. It takes an extra two minutes and keeps everything properly locked down.
Standard awnings let rain pool in the canopy, loading the seams and leaving you ducking under a dripping roof. The Fox Awning has four dedicated rain arms that angle the panels to actively push water off, combined with run-off tie-downs that direct it clear of the campsite. Push the rain arms up, clip the tie-downs, and rain clears itself. You can leave it out overnight without checking on it.
Six arms across 15 square metres keeps every section of fabric properly supported. That is the difference between a canopy that looks clean when deployed and one that looks like a tarp thrown over a frame.
This is the most important decision in the range and the one most people skip over. The material changes how the awning performs in heat, how it handles a tear, and how long it lasts across a season of hard use.
Polycotton breathes, which means radiant heat does not transfer through the canopy the way it does with polyester. On a 38-degree Australian summer day, that is the difference between usable shade and standing under a heat sink.
Ripstop means the weave is reinforced on a grid so a small nick or tear does not run. Out bush without a patch kit, a branch catching the fabric can turn into a long split fast with standard weave. Ripstop keeps it contained until you can repair it properly at home. The polycotton canvas suits extended trips, hot climates, and setups where you are camping in one spot for several nights.
The 600D fabric option is lighter and packs down smaller. It handles Australian sun and light rain without complaint and is the right pick for regular weekend trips where you are moving camp often and roof load matters. It shares the ripstop construction of the canvas variant, just in a synthetic weave rather than a polycotton blend.
Everything needed to get the awning set up and camp-ready is included. No chasing down extras after the fact.
LED strip lights are built into the awning arm structure, not clipped on and not sold separately. They connect to any 12-volt source or USB, and all the lighting cables are included. Setting up camp after dark means lights are on with the awning, not after a separate rigging step. The LEDs are user-replaceable without any modification to the awning.
The cover uses SBS zips, one of the largest zip manufacturers globally and the benchmark for quality in outdoor and marine gear. On an awning that gets opened and closed in dust, rain, and mud, the zip is what fails first on cheaper units. SBS zips hold up.
Velcro quick-straps secure the packed awning while driving. Open the strap tab before you try to open the awning, otherwise it binds and feels like the awning is stuck. Strap back to your roof rack rather than your bull bar. Bull bar mounting lets the awning sag forward under its own weight on corrugated roads, which stresses the bracket attachment over time.
The Fox Awning uses heavy-duty steel mounting brackets that are fully height-adjustable, so the awning sits correctly regardless of your rack profile. They suit platform racks, mesh racks, and most aftermarket setups without needing a different kit per vehicle.
For flat aluminium racks with channel nuts, the Cobra 4x4 flat rack bracket kit bolts straight in with no drilling. Anyone combining an awning with a roof top tent needs the awning-to-RTT adapter brackets, which offset the awning mount so both pieces of gear fit the same rack without fouling each other. The full bracket range sits under roof racks and accessories.
270 degree awnings are handed. Order the wrong configuration and it deploys on the wrong side of the vehicle. Passenger side (left) is the standard choice for campsite cooking setups and for keeping the awning away from traffic when stopped on a dirt road. Driver side (right) suits afternoon western sun protection or campsite orientations where terrain dictates the vehicle position.

The Fox Awning suits any vehicle running roof rack crossbars, including dual cab utes (Hilux, Ranger, D-Max, Triton, Navara and BT-50) and wagon-body 4x4s like the Prado 120 and 150 Series, LandCruiser 200 and 300 Series, Patrol and Fortuner. The bracket height adjustment handles variation between rack profiles across these vehicles without modification.
For Prado awning fitment, the 2.5M passenger side configuration works well on both the 120 and 150 Series. The roofline height gives clean arm clearance on deployment and the 270 degree sweep covers the side and rear without catching on the body. On smaller SUVs with factory crossbars, the 2M variant keeps the load proportionate to the rack's rated capacity.
